Fixing the massive long-term shortage of affordable housing is an opportunity to create a long-term and relatively trouble-free investment for super fund members while also addressing a pressing social and economic need, a new report finds.
The report also recommends ways to stimulate super fund investments in other important parts of Australia’s economy like manufacturing, technology, venture capital, energy transition and agriculture.
Investors crave policy certainty within super policies that chip away at the preservation principle - like the COVID-19 early release of super or super for a house - make long-term investments in the Australian economy more difficult.
