The March 2019 National Accounts saw the real economy grew by 0.4% for the quarter (market median 0.5%; ISA 0.4%) with annual growth measured at 1.8% in seasonally adjusted terms. The result continues our now 27-year record run without a technical recession.
Trend per capita GDP grew by -0.1% quarterly and 0.1% annually. This is a continuation of the negative trend in per capita GDP growth from Q3 and Q4 of 2018. Prior to the latest reading, there has been 19 occurrences of negative quarterly growth for per capita GDP since late 1991.
