The average Queensland woman has almost $55,000 less super than men at retirement, and if the government cuts the super rate women are going to keep falling further behind.
New analysis shows the median super balance of Queensland women on the cusp of retirement is just $131,500, about 30% less than the $185,700 median male. Both Queensland men and women are retiring with super balances well below national averages and the $545,000 recommended for a comfortable retirement.
Fisher – which captures the Sunshine Coast – has the lowest median balance for retiring women in the state, $88,400. Only in the electorate of Petrie is the median balance of women in their 60s more than $200,000.
