The Cost to Workers of Quarterly Superannuation Payments

Published: 13 Feb 2019

There are at least two ways in which the payment of SG on a quarterly payment costs workers:

  • When employers meet SG obligations in full, there is still a loss of investment earnings from quarterly payments compared to fortnightly payments; and
  • The loss of the ability for workers and the ATO to check if super has been paid or underpaid when they receive the corresponding information on wages.

This paper sets out some estimates on these costs to workers on a lifecycle and an aggregate annual basis.
