Our board of directors
Umberto Mecchi stands out as a distinguished member of the Industry Super Australia Board, boasting an extensive career that spans over 30 years in the realms of marketing and strategy.
With a deep-seated foundation in strategic marketing, Umberto has been instrumental in steering groundbreaking brand campaigns to success. His unique position as part of the initial steering committee for Industry Super Australia’s Compare the Pair campaign underscores his integral role in its development and the comprehensive understanding of its historical success.
His career not only showcases leadership roles within top advertising agencies but also highlights a broad range of strategic positions across various industries, with significant roles at Hostplus, ANZ Bank, and National Mutual/AXA, highlighting his extensive background in the financial sector.
His work has earned numerous accolades, including a place in the Chief Marketing Officer Top 50 list and several industry awards for marketing excellence. Umberto holds advanced degrees in Marketing and Organisational Leadership from prestigious institutions and is a recognized graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Peter Anderson is the Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) and National Secretary of the Australian Road Transport Industrial Organisation (ARTIO). Peter is a recognised leader within Australia’s transport and logistics industry with a long career history in the sector. Peter is also an employer-nominated trustee Director on the Team Super Board.
Peter is a passionate advocate for superannuation and the importance of delivering better retirement outcomes for members.
Bernie has been working in industry super for well over a decade and brings with him an abiding commitment to help members’ keep their super in good hands, and their interests at the heart of decision making so they can enjoy a better life in retirement.
Bernie is committed to bringing employers, workers and funds together on super and related economic issues that have the power to generate shared prosperity and a better, fairer way of life in Australia.
He has extensive experience in leading the development and implementation of business strategy, corporate affairs and marketing programs in the superannuation environment. As a previous, and proud Chief Executive of Industry Super Australia, Bernie led the team that integrated marketing and advocacy programs that helped industry super funds remain competitive, protected the founding principles of super, and boosted member savings.
Prior to working in super Bernie held a series of senior executive roles at WorkSafe Victoria, including leading award-winning marketing and communication programs that help protect workers lives and drive down the rate and cost of workplace injuries.
Kate Leplaw is Head of Member Experience & Marketing at AustralianSuper, where she leads a diverse portfolio to support the ambition of helping 3.5 million members achieve their best financial position in retirement. Prior to joining AustralianSuper in January 2022, Kate held various senior leadership roles in customer, marketing and brand across banking, wealth management and insurance. She holds a Bachelor of Business from QUT.
Joseph joined the ACTU in 2016, where he has been Political Director and a Policy Officer, as well as working with the Innovation and Growth Taskforces.
Most recently he led the ACTU Centre for Workers’ Capital.
Joseph grew up in Canberra and like many young Australians was a waiter through high school and university at local cafes and restaurants.
Joseph has a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Arts from Australian National University and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance from the University of NSW.
Jason Murray is the CEO of CareSuper where he is responsible for leading the strategy, culture and operations of the fund. Prior to this Jason was the CEO of Spirit Super until its merger with CareSuper in 2024.
He brings significant financial services experience spanning Banking, Insurance and Superannuation, having held various senior roles in organisations throughout Australia and the UK.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Business, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
Michael has been involved with industry superannuation funds since the 1980s. He is Co-Chair of First Super, which has 46,000 members across the timber, pulp & paper and furniture & joinery industries and their communities.
Michael is also the National Secretary of the Manufacturing Division of the Construction Forestry Maritime Mining & Energy Union (CFMEU). He has been with the Union for over twenty-five years, commencing work as a union organiser in 1985.
Further to the above, Michael is: Director of Forest Works Pty Ltd; and Director/Chair of Secure Employees Entitlements Trust (SEET). Michael has previously been a Director of Frontier Consulting Pty Ltd, asset-consulting to a range of industry and not-for-profit funds.
Lisa is the Chief Experience Officer of the $64billion industry super fund HESTA. HESTA serves more than 880,000 members across Australia and 80% of those members are women. Both HESTA and Lisa are committed to advancing gender equality, understanding that when women do better, everyone benefits from a more resilient economy and a fairer society.
Prior to joining HESTA in 2015, Lisa worked for a number of industry super funds and has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector. She is passionate about customer experience and building strong, sustainable brands and cultures that deliver on their promises.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Applied Economics, Graduate Diploma of Marketing, Masters of Organisational Leadership and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
Our staff
Alana is the Chief Executive and Director of Marketing at ISA. She is a deeply skilled marketer and strategist that holds over 20 years’ experience, with a specialisation in superannuation marketing. Prior to joining ISA Alana held various roles at advertising agencies working across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on behaviour change initiatives.
Working with ISA’s participating funds, Alana ensures the Joint Marketing Campaign delivers significant value for participating funds and their members.
She holds a Masters Degree in Marketing from RMIT University.
Bronwyn is responsible for working closely with all of the Industry SuperFunds on strategic development and implementation of the Industry SuperFunds' Joint Marketing Campaign (JMC). She is also responsible for the management of key agencies including creative, media, digital and research. She works with the JMC Steering Committee to gain consensus on strategies and campaign development while managing the execution and team output from beginning to end.
Prior to joining Industry Super Australia in 2017, Bronwyn was National Marketing Services Manager at Slater & Gordon. She brings a diverse marketing and media perspective to ISA, having over 20 years’ experience within the financial/legal/FMCG/creative industries.
Her tertiary studies include a Bachelor of Business (International Business/Public Relations) and Bachelor of Creative Industries (Media Communications).
Brooke is ISA’s Assistant Marketing Manager – Digital, providing support for Bronwyn Hooton on all areas of the Industry SuperFunds Joint Marketing Campaign.
Prior to joining ISA, Brooke worked in insurance and financial services marketing, after having spent many years working in advertising and design agencies.
Brooke holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) Degree from Deakin University.
Helen provides support for Bronwyn Hooton in the execution of the Joint Marketing Campaign.
She brings to ISA a great knowledge of developing and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns whilst maintaining relationships, having held roles within retail marketing.
She has a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) from RMIT University.
